Tamilnad Mercantile Bank Continues To Strengthen IT and Related Functions; Appoints Data Protection Officer

Tamilnad Mercantile Bank (TMB) has appointed S. Balasubramanian, the Deputy Vice President as Data Protection Officer of the Bank, according to an exchange filing.

Notably, TMB has announced multiple appointments in its Information Technology and related functions in the last few months. 

In a filing to the bourses, the bank said about the appointment of the Data Protection Officer, “We wish to inform the appointment of Thiru. S. Balasubramanian, Deputy Vice President as Data Protection Officer of the Bank, with effect from December 26, 2025.”

Background

He has over 26 years of rich experience in Information Technology and Cyber Security (Information/Cyber Security, Analysis, Design, Development, Testing, Quality Assurance, Implementation, IS/IT Governance & IS Audit), which includes over 7 years of experience as the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) of DBS Bank and over 4 years of experience as AGM-Information Security Services.  

Balasubramanian has academic and professional qualifications including MBA, MCA, CAIIB, CISA, HDCA, CSTP, CPISI V4.0, CPSP.

An expert in Information/Cyber security Operations, IT Risk Management, IS Audit, Information Security Governance, Data protection, Third party Risk Assessment, Digital Surface Monitoring, he is also having over 2 years of experience in teaching (Business Administration).

Recent Appointments

N. Sathishkumar was appointed as Vice President – Information Technology (VP-IT) in October, 2025 and in the same month the bank also named Davis Jose Thettayil as the Head of Information Technology (Executive Vice President) of the Bank for a period of 3 years. 

The bank also announced that Natarajan J., Vice President, Business Intelligence Unit (BI Unit), will be relieved from the service of the bank with effect from October 31, 2025.

The appointment of a Data Protection Officer comes amid increasing regulatory focus on data governance and information security. The Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 has mandated entities designated as Significant Data Fiduciary (SDF) to appoint a Data Protection Officer (DPO).
